Works with
| App or paper | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Google Sheets (web) | Built for | Make a copy into your Drive, or upload the .xlsx and open it with Sheets. Uses functions Sheets supports, like SUMIFS, INDEX/MATCH and IFERROR. Charts may need redrawing after an .xlsx import. Needs a Google account. |
| Google Sheets app (phone, tablet) | Works, with limits | Fine for adding transactions on your phone. Settings and the charts are easier on a computer. |
| Excel for Windows | Built for | Excel 2019 or later, or Microsoft 365. No macros. |
| Excel for Mac | Built for | Excel 2019 for Mac or later, or Microsoft 365. |
| GoodNotes | Not for this file | This is a spreadsheet. For paper or tablet, see the printable savings trackers. |
| Notability | Not for this file | As above. |
| Other PDF apps | Not for this file | No PDF in this product. |
| Print, A4 | Works, with limits | Each tab has an A4 print area set. Check the print preview before you print. |
| Print, US Letter | Works, with limits | Same as A4: the print areas are set for A4, so use fit to page. |
| Notion (free plan) | Not for this file | For Notion, see the Home & Life Dashboard. |
Built for: we made the file for this app or paper size, using its standard features.
Works, with limits: it opens and you can use it, but something in the note behaves differently.
Not for this file: pick another product if this is how you want to use it.
We build to these apps' standard features. Tell us if something doesn't behave.

How to start
Open the .xlsx in Excel, or upload it to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets.
On Settings, pick your currency symbol, the month and the day your budget month starts. Then rename the categories on Budget and type what you plan to spend in each.
On Transactions, clear the example rows and add your own as you spend: date, what it was, category, amount.
Read Summary. For another month, change the month on Settings and everything follows.
Filled in, and blank
Left, the page with made-up example data. Right, the same page with the example taken out.
Questions it answers
- How much is left of this month, category by category?
- Which category is near its limit, and which is already over?
- How much did I spend in each week of the month?
- Which eight categories took the most?
Licence, Delivery, Updates and support
- Licence
- Personal use: for you and your household, on your own devices, printed as often as you like for yourselves. No reselling, sharing or using it for work. The licence in full
- Delivery
After payment your download link appears on screen and arrives by email: the template as an Excel .xlsx file. To use it in Google Sheets, upload it to Google Drive and open it with Sheets. The link works for 7 days and 5 uses (a download, or opening a Sheets or Notion link); we'll send a new one if you need it.
- Withdrawal
- If a file doesn't open or doesn't match its description, we'll fix it or refund you. Because the files arrive straight away, you'll be asked at checkout to agree that withdrawal ends once you start a download or open a link. How withdrawal works
- Updates and support
- If we fix something in a file, you get the fixed version free, for as long as we sell the template. Questions go to support@dreamassetsstudio.com or +33 6 31 35 65 29.
Probably not for you if
- You want your bank account connected. Nothing here links to a bank; you type or paste each amount.
- You want a whole year in one file. The Annual Budget & Expense Tracker does that.
- You'd rather work on paper. Look at the printable savings trackers or the weekly planner.
- A note on advice
- Dream Assets Studio templates are planning and tracking tools. They are not financial, tax, legal or investment advice, and they don't know your personal situation. Example figures are made up. You're responsible for what you enter and for the decisions you make with the results.

Questions about this one
Do I need a Google account?
For the Sheets version, yes, a free one. The Excel file works without one.
Can I change the currency?
You can type any symbol on Settings. It appears in the labels only; the cells hold plain numbers with two decimals, and the sheet doesn't convert between currencies.
How do I do October?
Change the month on Settings and Summary follows. Transactions holds up to 300 rows per file, so for a busy household make a fresh copy each month or clear the old rows.
Why do the cells look empty in a Finder or email preview?
The file stores formulas, not their results. They compute when you open it in Excel or Sheets. Quick Look and mail previews don't calculate, so they show blanks.
Will it open in Apple Numbers?
It usually opens, but Numbers isn't what we build for, and dropdowns and some formatting may look different. Google Sheets is free and the safer choice on a Mac without Excel.
