List what you owe, choose an order to pay it off in, and log each payment so you can see what's left on each balance.
Example data
Names and numbers in this preview are made up. Blank shows the same page with the example taken out.
What you get
- money-debt-payoff.xlsx
- The Excel version. No macros.
- Tab: Read me
- How the plan works, and the note that it gives estimates from your inputs and is not financial advice.
- Tab: Debts
- Up to 10 debts: name, current balance, interest rate (APR %), minimum payment, notes.
- Tab: Plan
- Pick snowball (smallest balance first) or avalanche (highest rate first), the extra amount per month and the start month. The sheet ranks your debts and lays out a month-by-month schedule, up to 120 months, with the payment per debt. Minimums of cleared debts roll into the pool.
- Tab: Payments
- Date, debt from a dropdown, amount, note. Room for 300 rows.
- Tab: Overview
- The estimated debt-free month, months of payments, total interest and total paid, each debt's payoff month and status, plus two charts: balance over time, and starting balance against interest.
- Example data
- Léa's five debts and two months of payments, fictional and labelled. Clear it before you start.

Built for: we made the file for this app or paper size, using its standard features.
Works, with limits: it opens and you can use it, but something in the note behaves differently.
Not for this file: pick another product if this is how you want to use it.
We build to these apps' standard features. Tell us if something doesn't behave.

How to start
Open the .xlsx in Excel, or upload it to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets.
On Debts, clear the example and copy in each balance, rate and minimum payment from your latest statements.
On Plan, choose snowball or avalanche, type any extra you can add each month, and set the start month.
Log each payment on Payments, and read Overview. When a new statement arrives, update the balance to match your lender.
Filled in, and blank
Left, the page with made-up example data. Right, the same page with the example taken out.
Questions it answers
- What do I owe in total, and which debt gets the extra money first?
- What month does the plan estimate each debt will be cleared?
- How much interest does the plan add up to, under each method?
- How do the payments I logged compare with the plan so far?

Probably not for you if
- You're looking for advice on what to do about debt. This is a tracker. For advice, a bank adviser or a free debt-advice service in your country is the place to ask.
- You want a payoff date you can count on. Any dates or months the sheet shows are estimates from the numbers you typed, and your lender's statement is the real figure.
- You want it linked to your accounts. You type balances and payments in yourself.
- A note on advice
- Dream Assets Studio templates are planning and tracking tools. They are not financial, tax, legal or investment advice, and they don't know your personal situation. Example figures are made up. You're responsible for what you enter and for the decisions you make with the results.

Questions about this one
Snowball or avalanche, which is better?
We don't say. Switch the method on Plan and the sheet shows the order and the estimates each gives. Which suits you is your call.
My balance in the sheet doesn't match my statement.
That's expected after a while: the sheet assumes fixed minimums and rates, monthly interest on the opening balance, and no fees or promotional rates. Type the statement balance in and it lines up again.
Does the order change as I pay things off?
The order is worked out once, from your starting balances and rates, and then stays fixed. When a debt is cleared, its minimum rolls into the pool for the next one.
What if the plan does not clear a debt?
The schedule runs 120 months. If something is still open at the end, Overview says so, usually because a minimum is lower than the monthly interest or the extra is very small.
Can I use it for a mortgage?
You can list one, but mortgages have their own schedules from the lender. Most people track it there and use this for the shorter debts.
